Prof. Jayachandran, SGBED President
Dr. C. Jayachandran, President of SGBED, is a professor of Marketing & International Business with teaching, research and consulting interests in internationalization of SMEs, market entry modes and marketing strategies with a focus on emerging markets. Besides teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, he played a leadership role in developing and implementing undergraduate and graduate programs in international business and outreach services for SMEs. As part of this initiative, developed grant proposals and received Title VI B grants from the U.S. Department of Education and facilitated development of IB curriculum, faculty development programs and student internships. He is actively associated with the USDE as a reader of competitive grant proposals. He served as a faculty on several executive programs and delivered lectures to academics and businesses in US and abroad.
He is also the founding director of the Center for International Business (CIB) and International Trade Counseling Center (ITCC) at Montclair State University. ITCC serve as a “one-stop shopping place” for local SMEs that seek information, guidance and counseling relating to international trade. One of the more successful firms that benefited from this program was featured on CNN by Lou Dobbs in 1993. The Association Liaison Office (ALO) for University Cooperation in Development in conjunction with the USAID published a short case on ITCC to illustrate higher education-business/industry partnerships that foster economic development. The NASBITE (National Association of Small Business International Trade Educators) presented its Program Excellence Award to ITCC in recognition of outstanding achievements in international trade education in 1998. The NJ World Trade Council also recognized his contribution to international business education and outreach programs as an “Outstanding Faculty Member in International Business in New Jersey.”
Dr. “Jay” has also successfully organized a consortium of universities around the world and established the Society for Global Business and Economic Development (SGBED). As of now, the SGBED implemented eleven major international business conferences: four in China, two in Slovakia, one each in India, Thailand, Guadalajara (Mexico), Seoul (S.Korea) and Kyoto in Japan. Under his leadership the SGBED had published 21 volumes of conference proceedings, four books of readings by JAI publishers, Macmillan of UK and Utara University in Malaysia and Francis & Taylor (Routledge). The 12th International Conference, “Building Capabilities for Sustainable Global Business: Balancing Corporate Success & Social Good” will take place in Singapore in July 20-23, 2011.
He holds a BA, MA and PhD in Economics from the University of Madras. His research papers were published in a range of journals includingEconomic Times, Journal of Health Care Marketing, Journal of Consumer Marketing, Journal of Services Marketing, Issues in International Business, Journal of Services Research, Economic and Political Weekly, and Asian Case Research, International Journal of Business Research, International Journal of Business Innovation & Research, among others.
